“The drumming was exhilarating and a unique experience. The combination of focus and rhythm made it very relaxing too. It was powerful too and great as a group experience.”

What would it be like for your team to feel energised and uplifted with a renewed sense of focus?

Team connectivity and employee wellbeing are essential for business success. Communication challenges, complex problem-solving, and competing priorities can test even the most resilient teams.

A drum circle offers a dynamic activity that promotes connectivity and teamwork through a shared rhythm. The group sits in a circle, each participant with a drum or percussion instrument, and through guided facilitation, they engage in a rhythm-based exercise that builds synergy and connection. Unlike traditional team-building exercises focused on strategy or physical tasks, a drum circle emphasises creative collaboration.

The beauty of a drum circle lies in its simplicity—no prior musical knowledge or skill is required. Participants can immerse themselves in the music, focusing on the rhythm, which helps alleviate stress while enhancing their ability to work together and build synergy.

The drum circles provide team members with:
-
A chance to step away from the daily grind.
-
A space to release your creative side - yes, it’s there!
-
A fun, freeing experience with no expectations.
-
And the bonus? You’ll learn to play a djembe drum—and maybe a few others too!

What is a Drum Circle?

A drum circle is a gathering of people, each with a drum or percussion instrument, creating music together. Facilitated by an experienced leader, the session provides guidance for rhythms while encouraging freedom to explore, make connections and express yourselves.
Each circle typically lasts 2 hours, giving plenty of time to settle in, learn basic rhythms, and build creative, collective sounds. My drum circles include a variety of instruments, such as djembe, bougarabou and dun dun drums, along with other percussion tools, to help create the diversity of sound we will make together.
The BEAT Philosophy
Four years ago, I discovered the magic of drum circles—a powerful way to connect, create, and be fully present and how transformative the energy created can be. I’ve been working closely with a highly experienced mentor, attending drum circles, learning rhythms, and deepening my understanding so that I can now facilitate drum circles with teams and witness those very changes I've seen at other circles. My drum circles are guided by my own BEAT philosophy:

B – Be present in the moment and the rhythm.
E – Express yourself authentically, free from judgment, perfectionism or failure, in a space where you can just be your full self.
A – Appreciate yourself, the group, and the music you create together.
T – Togetherness—embrace the sense of community and connection to support each other
My hope is that your team will leave my drum circles feeling energised and lifted as they awaken their rhythm for life and business. Walking back through the door with a smile on their faces, a renewed sense of purpose and clarity on the teams visions and goals. This also comes with the added wellbeing bonus of a sense of loosening up their bodies so they don’t feel so tense or stressed as they head back into their working life.

What are the benefits?

Whether you’re looking for a sense of connection, fun, or something creative and different, A drum circle offers numerous benefits, enhancing team dynamics through rhythm and collaboration:

Team connectivity:
-
Non-verbal Communication: Participants communicate through rhythm, fostering connection and encouraging attentiveness and adaptability. Without relying on verbal exchanges, participants learn to read cues (such as being off beat, or beating too loud) listen attentively, and adjust their actions based on the group’s needs.
-
Equality in the Circle: Everyone sits as an equal, promoting openness and a sense of unity, regardless of role or rank.
-
Collaboration through Rhythm: Individual rhythms combine to create a collective sound, mirroring teamwork where diverse contributions achieve a shared goal.
-
Creative Problem-Solving: Improvisation encourages new perspectives, supporting adaptability and innovative solutions in the workplace.
Physical and Emotional benefits:
-
Physical Exercise: Drumming engages the whole body, boosting circulation and promoting relaxation.
-
Emotional Release: The rhythm allows participants to express emotions non-verbally, offering an outlet for stress, excitement, or joy.
-
Mood boost: The collective energy raises endorphin levels, generating positive group energy.
Psychological Benefits:
-
Stress Reduction: Drumming lowers cortisol levels, reducing stress and promoting calmness, helping teams handle workplace challenges more effectively.
-
Increased Presence and Focus: Drumming requires concentration, improving mindfulness, mental clarity, and problem-solving skills essential traits for any team in the workplace.
-
Enhanced Trust and Communication: Individuals need to listen, respond, and adjust to the collective rhythm. The need for coordination builds trust and strengthens communication, key to successful teamwork
